Jean-Sébastien Denis pushes the boundaries of painting through a hybrid approach that blends pictorial, graphic, and even sculptural techniques. His works, rich in contrasts of colour, texture, and pattern, create visual ecosystems that interact with one another and with the exhibition space. Refusing to limit himself to the flat surface of the canvas, the artist creates an extension of his works within the exhibition space, where the paintings unfold as part of the scenography.

Through this approach, the artist transforms our perception of the boundaries of painting and the exhibition space, while offering a reflection on the history of abstraction through certain landmark works from the collection of the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts.
