On Saturday, June 22, 2019, Galerie Simon Blais will open its doors wide to the public, who are invited to come and see the exhibition marking its 30th anniversary, Depuis 30 ans – Maintenant. At the same time, visitors will be able to take advantage of three guided tours of the gallery (to be held at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.) to get a look at certain of its spaces they would normally not have access to. In addition, they will have the opportunity to meet and chat with a number of Québec artists the gallery represents, among them Michel Goulet, Carol Bernier, Isabelle Guimond and Marie-Eve Beaulieu, as well as the chance to win door prizes in a draw conducted by gallery staff.
This open house reflects its organizers’ determination to democratize the experience of art. While commercial galleries are often believed to be aimed only at collectors, Simon Blais and his team like to remind people that they exist first and foremost to show the work of the artists they represent to those new to learning about art and connoisseurs alike. Over the last thirty years, Galerie Simon Blais has established itself as a hub of Québec’s visual arts and become a true Montréal institution.
