September 6 – October 6, 2018
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the publication of Québec culture’s iconic manifesto Refus global, Galerie Simon Blais is offering his visitors an exhibition on the work of some of the artists who were its signatories. Works from different periods, as well as archival documents, by Marcel Barbeau, Paul-Émile Borduas, Marcelle Ferron, Pierre Gauvreau, Fernand Leduc, Jean-Paul Mousseau, Jean Paul Riopelle and Françoise Sullivan are exhibited at its premises.
Galerie Simon Blais, alongside curator Claude Gosselin, will also present an exhibition devoted to the works of Refus global signatories, that will be on view at The Québecor head office’s Espace musée from October 2, 2018 to January 9, 2019. A selection of vintage documents, including the manifesto itself, works on paper, photographs and paintings—all from 1948—will offer a fresh look at this tumultuous yet glorious period in mid-20th-century Québec painting. Appearing in this exhibition is the totality of the signatories: Madeleine Arbour, Marcel Barbeau, Paul-Émile Borduas, Bruno Cormier, Marcelle Ferron, Claude Gauvreau,Pierre Gauvreau, Muriel Guilbault, Fernand Leduc, Jean-Paul Mousseau, Maurice Perron, Louise Renaud, Thérèse Renaud-Leduc, Françoise Riopelle, Jean Paul Riopelle and Françoise Sullivan.
