March 19 – May 2, 2020
For the very first time, Galerie Simon Blais is presenting a group exhibition featuring Op Art, with some twenty works from its own collection, as well as from the estates of artists it represents. On display will be creations by Jacques Hurtubise, Yves Gaucher, Denis Juneau, Claude Tousignant and Guido Molinari, who all made use of optical processes in respect to form, colour and light, as well as those by Peter Daglish and Jean Goguen. The exhibition will provide a unique opportunity to discover—or rediscover—the work of artists with whom the gallery has had a long-standing relationship.
The term Op Art first entered the public consciousness in 1965 in reference to works creating an illusion of movement through the interplay of colour and form. This art movement was the result of many experiments dating back to the nineteenth century that led to a number of discoveries related to optics and the juxtaposition of colours.
