PIERRE BLANCHETTE

Pierre Blanchette was born in Trois-Rivières in 1953, and studied at UQAM. He lived in Paris from 1980 to 1993, exhibiting at Galerie Regards, the Canadian Cultural Center, the Quebec Delegation in Paris, and Galerie Véronique Smagghe.

In Quebec, his work has been presented at Galerie Gilles Corbeil, Galerie Michel Tétreault, Galerie Jolliet, Galerie Éric Devlin, and Galerie Madeleine Lacerte in Quebec City, and at Galerie Simon Blais in Montreal.

He was part of many group shows in Canada and abroad, including the Works on Paper Art Fair in New York (2001), Peinture-Peinture (1998) in Montreal, and the Collection de la Banque Nationale de Paris (1991), as well as at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris (1983) and the 49th Parallel Gallery in New York (1988).

He was Quebec’s official representative to the 14th Cultural Moussem of Asilah, an international art festival in Morocco (1991), and the guest artist at the Baie-Saint-Paul New Painting Symposium (1997). He was awarded the First Prize at the Concours d'œuvres d'art du Premier Ministre (1973, 1974), and at the International Painting Festival in Cagnes-sur-mer, France (1980). He was granted a residency at the Studio du Québec in New York City (1995) and has received many artistic grants from the Cultural Affairs departments of the Quebec and Canada governments.

His paintings are part of many major public and private collections in Canada, including the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and the Canada Council Art Bank.

Pierre Blanchette lives and works in Abercorn, Quebec.
